Hanging in NYC || Our family staycation

Every summer, my family tries to take a small little vacation. Due to scheduling and vacation dates this year, the best we could do was just a weekend away. Instead of wasting time driving to a beach location, where there would be a possiblity of the weather not being the best, we decided to spend a weekend in New York City! Now you may think this sounds silly, as both my dad and I work in Manhattan, and my sister interned there all summer. But we’ve never spent time in NYC just like tourists! The best part of the weekend was all the deals I found! Groupon was my best friend while planning this trip.

Our weekend started Saturday morning when we got up and drove to the city. Before we left, I found a Groupon for a parking garage right near the hotel. It was much cheaper than paying to park in the hotel! We got to the city around 11, found the parking garage, grabbed our bags and began walking to the hotel. We were staying at the Marriott Marquis, right in Times Square! We requested early check-in, so we would be able to drop off our bags and enjoy the day (check-in is normally 4pm). The hotel staff was great, and gave us our key for our room on the 18th floor. We dropped off our bags, freshened up, then headed back downstairs for lunch at Crossroads American Kitchen and Bar, in the hotel. I chose the In-and-Out, and had a soup, salad, and sandwich of my choosing. Mom had a turkey burger, and my sister and dad both chose the buffet option.

Lunch was pretty quick, which was perfect for us to walk around for a little bit and head to the Broadhurst Theater for a matinee of Mamma Mia! I found a Groupon offer and took full advantage. We had Orchestra seats, and surprisingly, all the seats around us were empty! My family and I loved all of the classic ABBA songs. When the show was over we walked back to the hotel, grabbed some Starbucks, and went to relax in the room before dinner.

Dinner was at Guy’s American Kitchen and Bar, Guy Fieri’s restaurant! This restaurant was also very close to the hotel. Dinner was great, and we all enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant.  After dinner we walked to Bryant Park and explored a little there. Afterwards, we headed back near the hotel and to Juniors for some cheesecake and coffee! It was a great way to end the day 😀

We slept great in our nice comfy beds, and woke up the next morning and packed our things. I had purchased another Groupon offer for brunch at the Hudson Eatery, and made reservations for 11am. We checked out of our room, grabbed the car, and drove up to the restaurant. We loved our food at the restaurant! Unfortunately we couldn’t drink, because NY is not allowed to serve alcohol before 12 on Sundays, but the owner was kind and offered us more juice and coffee. After brunch we headed home, and we’re very happy with our staycation in NYC!

I suggest signing up for  Groupon account, you never know what you’ll find! Also, plan a last minute summer trip. You won’t regret it!
